Livestream 5/13/2021 – Metroid Prime

I wanted to try something different for the stream this week. Usually I stick to retro computers and dabble with the MiSTer since that’s what I know and have set up. That said I loved playing through Metroid Prime when I got my Gamecube back when so I wanted to try and stream it. The deep atmosphere and awesome progression kept me hooked all the way through and it’s one of the few games I can actually put on the list of ones I’ve beaten… if you know me that’s not many!

The road to get that capture working was long involving many different systems, cables, settings and burned discs but I got there in the end. I go through all the hoops I had to deal with for this at the beginning of the video. Otherwise to summarize this is played on a softmodded Wii using component cables output at 480p into my capture card. The game is played from an ISO file on a USB stick since I couldn’t get my PAL copy to load the way I wanted.

Still all that aside the game is still awesome! Check out the replay below.

10 of my favorites to play on a 486

In the latest video I wanted to cover some of my favorites to play on a 486. The 486 in question is an HP Vectra with a 486 DX2 66 MHz processor. I didn’t want to create a top list or ranking as I feel personally that’d be near impossible. I mostly just wanted to capture and throw out some of the games I really like playing on my 486. Check out the video and see if you share any of the favorites of if you have others ones you enjoyed and maybe still enjoy playing on a 486.

Gaming Magazine from 1992

I’ll always have a really soft spot for old computer and gaming magazines just from the time capsule factor and nostalgia. It’s fun to read about how the industry was at the time, what new games were coming out and oh yes those great, great ads! Nothing captures the 90s better than the full page ads spread throughout with bold or aggressive messages. This is Computer Gaming World from November 1992 with some choice ads I snapped pictures of. A delight to flip through thinking back to lusting after all these games and products.

Livestream 5/6/2021 – Star Wars: Rebellion

It was the week of the 4th so pretty much had to play a Star Wars game! That game is Rebellion (also known as Supremacy in other regions) which is a 4x empire management game set in the Star Wars universe. The story takes place immediately after the rebels destroy the first Death Star in Episode IV. You either control the Empire trying to quell the rebellion or the Rebel Alliance as you push to free the galaxy. The game focuses a lot on diplomacy and hero units and how they are utilized and not just production and expansion. Like so many other games of this type it sucks you in and you want to keep playing… and playing… anyway check out the replay below!

May 4th… which was yesterday!

May 4th has already come and gone but regardless of what Star Wars is today being the mega blockbuster back in the 90s it wasn’t quite so rosy. No prequel trilogy, no sequel trilogy and not owned by Disney. It wasn’t nearly the juggernaut it is today and Star Wars as a phenomenon was mostly carried on by 3rd parties. Such as the list of truly amazing games for PC that came out during the 90s. Consider Dark Forces, Tie Fighter or Rebel Assault.

It was a great time for Star Wars games and I still go back to these to this day. Classics.
